Places of Worship Approved for Conditional Reopening in Phase 2

Governor Cuomo today announced that places of worship will be permitted to reopen with 25 percent occupancy with all social distancing protocols in place during Phase 2 of New York State’s reopening process. Places of worship in the seven regions that have already entered Phase 2 – the Capital Region, Central New York, the Finger Lakes, the Mohawk Valley, the North Country, the Southern Tier, and Western New York – can reopen beginning tomorrow, June 7th.

Ban on Price Gouging of PPE

To ensure that healthcare workers and the general public have adequate access to PPE (personal protective equipment) like masks, the Governor will be signing legislation (S.8189/A.10270) banning price gouging of PPE through the remainder of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Temperature Checks in Commercial Buildings

As office workers are returning to the workplace in Phase 2 of the State’s reopening, the Governor is issuing an Executive Order allowing commercial buildings to conduct temperature checks for anyone entering the building.

In preparation for New York City’s Phase 1 reopening on June 8th, the State is supplying the MTA with over one million masks, as well as 25,000 gallons and 500,000 2 oz. bottles of sanitizer.

New York State COVID-19 Numbers – New Lows Reached

Thankfully, we are now firmly on the far side of the COVID-19 plateau in New York State.  The number of deaths in the State increased by 35 since yesterday. While this number remains painfully high, it represents the lowest number of deaths since the COVID-19 pandemic began (by contrast, a record-high of 800 people passed away on a single day eight weeks ago).
